Preliminary task: Production diary
In total, for my prelimanary task (firts attempt) I did two days for actual filming and then an addtional day of practice filming to get more comfortable with the equipment, as well as many sessions of editing and sifting through websites for music, soundtrack and general sound effects.
The first day of filming didnt quite go to plan, there was poor weather and I left it too late to go out so half of my footage could not be used becuase it was too dark. However this was not a complete failure becuase I started fliming all over again the next day with fresh ideas and aproaches to setting up my camera and different angales I thought would be interesting to try. For example I decided it would be interesting to get more POV's from someone actually inside the house of my protagonist- this way I could connote more imagery of her being watched and stalked. I also decided that although a later afternoon shoot may suit the thriller theme better- an ealier filming session may be more appropriate for someone who is only just getting to grips with a DLSR as navigating exposure, focus etc can be tricky lowkey lighting. Although I did not get any footage that could be used for a second draft on this first day of filming I still feel it was a sucess becuase I learnt alot from it and gained more ideas and tactics for filming.
On the second day of filminging I managed to get plenty of different shots from different angles; however due to lack of 'cats and crew' for transportation I could not get many clean shots of a key climactic point in my sequence, after filming on this second day I have decided that I would like more POV shots from inside the car to make my antagonist more on a character. I would also like to get some shots of my antagonist driving the car- this is somethign I decided after filming. This second day really challenged me to think of more innovative ways to set up a camera instead of going handheld, as a result my editing skills were excersized becuase of having to cut out various shots of me walking around the camera and tripod to set up. To come to a conclusion, this second day was also sucessful in the sense that I managed to get substantial footage for editing my seocond draft of my prelimanary task; nevertheless I think I would prefer to film later in the day for a more eerie, thriller like tone.
The final stage of the first draft of my prelimanary task was editing on premiere pro and looking for a soundtrack; this has proven to be the most dificult stage of production for me becuase I find exporting my finished drafts very complicated. However after filming two drafts and editing three 1min-2min mini movies I feel far more confident when using premiere pro, I still have alot to learn and continusly reffer to youtube tutorials for guidence but using the app is steadily becoming more fluent to me. I am still having trouble with exporting and attching music but im slowly making my way through techniques to make this easier.
