DSLR practice

On the weekend I decided to practice using a DSLR so I went on a walk and took so footage of my surroudings. The key aim, amoung other things was to get a video of the sun setting over a hill, I did not achieve this as I found fiddling with the exposure settings very difficult. I also found using a tripod quite tricky due to uneven surface and strong winds, so it was soon disregareded. Another obsticle I faced was the weather, I hoped to get some audio recordings of birds and possibly running water but the microphone and audio equpiment I had with me didnt manage to pick up much sound becuase of the wind. This was just a practive run to so I could get more comfortable using equipment I had never used before, for next time I know I should check the forecast. I have also asked to go over how to set up a tripod and attach it to the camera with my teacher.
